Project Challenge
RTL’s team was to divert the Morwell River as well as smaller diversions of Wilderness Creek and Eel Hole Creek as well as the adjacent Highway and Rural roads
RTL's Approach
A new alignment of the Strzelecki Highway and the Morwell River was required by the client to expand the open-cut mine at Hazelwood Power Station.
Project Outcomes
1. The project involved the placement of 10 million m³ of engineered fill used.
2. Relocation of 7.5km of the Strzelecki Highway included the construction of two bridges as well as all roadworks and drainage.
3. Re-routing of the existing OD9 route including upgrading 5km of rural roads.
4. Diversion of the Morwell River as well as smaller diversions of Wilderness Creek and Eel Hole Creek.
